Ayr United boss Mark Kerr says his players will stay motivated during coronavirus crisis

Ayr United boss Mark Kerr has vowed to keep his players motivated from afar during the coronavirus crisis.

The player/manager is busy trying to keep tabs on his squad via phone as they practice social distancing measures.

But with no sign of football returning for the forseeable future, he admits he's facing his biggest challenge in the game.

He told the Ayrshire Post : "It's just a very surreal time and nobody knows what lies ahead.

"As a football manager, you get used to most things being in your control.

"But this situation has changed everything.

"As a manager it leaves you feeling pretty powerless but we're all in the same boat.

"We trust in the boys that they’ll keep themselves fit during this time but there’s no telling how long this thing will last.

"All we can do is try and keep them motivated during a very difficult time for everyone."

SFA bosses were forced to issue a warning to all clubs earlier this week after discovering some were still holding training sessions.

But Ayr have been in lockdown for almost two weeks and players are being asked to keep themselves in shape remotely.

Kerr added: "Everyone is uncertain about what the future holds but hopefully we can get through this sooner rather than later and back to normal."
