Ayr United boss Mark Kerr hails new owner David Smith's takeover as huge positive club

Ayr boss Mark Kerr is backing David Smith to lead a Somerset Park revolution.

The player-manager reckons Smith’s takeover will signal a bold new way of doing things in Tryfield Place.

Kerr said: “David has been a breath of fresh air since joining the Board and has been brilliant to work with.

“Both he and Lachlan have been very supportive of myself and Mick (McArdle) and it’s positive news to see this being done.

“When you’re going through a sticky spell like we are just now, it’s obviously my job to get that turned around.

“Everybody has them in football and it’s our spell just now.

“But David sees how hard we’re working and his support is great.

“He’s come in and brought everything together at the club and this will be a very good thing for us moving forward.”

Meanwhile, Kerr continues to cast the net for a striker after adding Ipswich defender Corrie Ndaba on loan last week.

He said: “Things are moving a bit slowly this month with agents holding out for what they can get.

“But we’re working away to get something over the line.

“Corrie has arrived and fitted in very well with the group, so we’re really hopeful for him.”

Ayr saw their rearranged Scottish Cup tie at Elgin tonight postponed as part of the lower leagues being put on ice for Covid restrictions.

However, both the Championship and Premiership will continue.

Ayr will now be required to test players on a weekly basis as part of the new safety rules.

United travel to Dundee on league business this Saturday.
