Ayr United assistant manager Mick McArdle looks to back up off field excitement with positive results

Mick McArdle says Ayr United will work to deliver progress on the pitch – after a week of headlines off it.

The Somerset assistant manager has hailed David Smith's takeover as a positive new era for the club.

Now he wants to help ensure the Honest Men can produce results to match long term plans for success.

Speaking about the new owner's unveiling, McArdle told the club's Black & White TV channel: "It's been nothing other than a positive.

"Lach and David have been working for a long time in the background to make this seamless.

"Both the guys have been really thorough and transparent with everyone.

"David and the other directors were down at training the other day and we had a good chat.

"They spoke about the ambitions of the club.

"We've seen that on a day to day basis because we are involved.

"We've seen the boardroom change, the investment in the facilities around the stadium, the exciting Hub and the infrastructure.

"These are the things around the club which the fans unfortunately can't see as we're not allowed down at Somerset at the moment.

"But the positive support the directors are giving the playing squad and myself and Mark is great.

"We're just looking forward to getting the form on the pitch that backs that excitement up and doubles it.

"All the excitement off the pitch is great but ultimately what we do on the pitch drives that and we'll work as hard as always to do our bit."

Ayr kept a tight leash on Charlie Adam at Somerset back in November (SNS Group)

McArdle was speaking ahead of tomorrow's visit to Championship promotion hopefuls Dundee.

The Dens Park men have gone on a six game unbeaten league run since losing 2-0 at Somerset in November.

McArdle says: "We go there at full strength and are really looking forward to the game and hopefully turning our form around.

"The man to look out for just now is obviously Charlie Adam, who's just been named Championship Player of the Month.

"James McPake has found a solution around six or seven games ago with a change of shape to free up Charlie and he is the source of a lot deliveries into the box.

"But we'll be well prepared for that and have the confidence of how we played at Somerset when we kept him very quiet."
