Ayr taxi firm offers free service to the vulnerable

A big-hearted taxi firm in Ayr is offering free cabs for the elderly and vulnerable.

Gribbens Taxis in George Street are allocating free journeys to and from food stores on certain days.

It’s designed so that pensioners and other vulnerable people can get out and pick up supplies during the current coronavirus lockdown.

They said: “Tesco are opening their doors early on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays 9am-10am and Iceland every Wednesday from 10am-12noon.

Train passengers can expect to be quizzed over their reasons for travel by British Transport Police this week.

Officers will be patrolling various services as the restrctions on all but essential travel continue and can dish out fines to those who are flouting the new rules. The lockdown on all but essential travel has, however, led to a major reduction in services available to rail passengers, as well as those who take the bus.

Stagecoach West has temporarily closed their Travel Shop in Ayr. Those who plan to travel by bus are being urged to call 0871 200 22 33 for the latest updates to their journeys.

Streamline and Citadel Taxis have announced they are still on the road - but with a reduced fleet.
