Ayr’s own Bear Grylls is gearing up to camp out in the wild for this year’s Virtual Kiltwalk.
Bushcraft and survival expert Jamie ‘WildMan’ Frizzell, 27, from Ayr, will be adventuring around the Ayrshire countryside, in his tartan kilt, before setting up camp at the Carrick Hills — using only a tarpaulin sheet for cover.
The Kilmarnock College student will be raising funds for Scottish Cancer Foundation — a charity close to his heart.
Jamie told Ayrshire Live: “I’m going to keep walking until it starts to get dark and then I’ll set up camp.
“It’s just the basics I’m taking with me — I’m not taking a tent or anything fancy.
“I’m going to put up a tarpaulin — just a waterproof sheet — with a sleeping bag underneath it and that’s it.
“It’s really just to get out with the bare minimum and challenge myself, so that I’m actually working for the charity rather than just going out a walk.

Jamie has even brought out a new clothing range, featured on his website, specifically for the Kiltwalk with all profits going towards helping to fight cancer.
He said: “Three of my family members have passed away due to cancer.
“The first passed away when I was very young, so cancer has been on my mind for 20 odd years.
“And just last summer my uncle passed away from cancer.
“Any cancer charity is close to my heart, it all goes to the same cause and helps fight cancer.
Jamie said he has always been into “survival, bushcraft and the outdoors” but his journey as WildMan really began in 2019.
He said: “In October 2019 I was in a bit of a dark patch in life; nothing was going right so I just thought ‘I’m away out into the wild’.
“And it was as if that’s what I needed and it stuck ever since.
“A lot of people are neglecting the wilderness, trees and grass for concrete and computer games.
“I just think people need to get out more and I think they’ll be a lot happier.”
