Ayr pub gets the green light for outdoor food and drink area

An Ayr pub has been given the green light for an outdoor drinking area and takeaway after promising to enforce a ban on unaccompanied children in the bar area.

The Redstone Inn, in Main Street, applied to use the car park area, which had already been used to allow outdoor drinking during covid restrictions.

A report from South Ayrshire licensing stated: "An application has been submitted, to include the use of a previous car park area at the side of the premises as an outdoor drinking area, including a wooden food unit for takeaway.

"Considerable work has taken place to make this area a clean and usable space, with decking and bench seating and the provision of a smoking area."

While the report was satisfied by most of the application, it called on the licensee to clarify how they would deal with children entering the main premises to eat food.

Labour councillor Andy Campbell, expressed concern after the applicant said they 'didn't expect' children to be in the pub itself.

Councillor Campbell said he wasn't satisfied that this was strict enough.

The applicant then confirmed that it would be enforced by staff.

The application was approved by the board.
