Ayr MSP tests positive for coronavirus and is self-isolating with 'flu-like' symptoms

Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown has been struck down with coronavirus and is self-isolating with 'flu-like' symptoms.

The SNP member for Ayr, Prestwick and Troon tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday night is said to be unwell with symptoms similar to a mild flu.

Ms Brown becomes the second SNP Ayrshire politician to contract the virus in the past week.

Ayr MP Allan Dorans had to battle Covid in hospital following a 'severe and debilitating' bout of the bug.

The politician who represents Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock was admitted to hospital last week.

The 66-year-old thanked NHS staff who have been treating him that coronavirus still has the "potential to do serious harm."

Ms Brown says her Covid battle is a "timely reminder that this virus has not gone away."

A spokesperson for the Ayr MSP told Ayrshire Live: "Siobhian was contacted by Track and Trace at the weekend. She immediately got tested and went into self isolation. Her positive result came back late on Sunday night.

"Whilst at present she does feel unwell the symptoms are like a mild flu. It is a timely reminder that this virus has not gone away and we should continue to be vigilant. Siobhian is grateful to have been double vaccinated. She would urge anyone eligible to do the same.

"Siobhian would also like to thank everyone for their well wishes. "
