Ayr hairdresser slammed by council for reopening salon from home because she felt ‘disregarded’

A hairdresser is being probed by the council after reopening a salon from home - because she felt “disregarded” from the government.

Vogue Hair and Beauty owner Kayleigh Simpson announced on social media that she was taking bookings yesterday (Wednesday).

Hairdressers and barbers have been ordered to shut since March but Kayleigh said she would reopen the High Street salon from home.

On Thursday afternoon First Minister Nicola Sturgeon reiterated that hairdressers and other specialist personal retail will have to wait until Phase 3 to reopen.

Council chiefs were forced to remind Kayleigh of the guidelines after contacting the owner.

A post on the salon’s Facebook page said: “With a lot of consideration I have made the decision to reopen from home for all Hair Extension appointments until the Salon I’m based in opens it’s doors.

“This is not a matter of putting “Wealth before Health” Hairdressers are one of the most clinical environment to work within and visit, we are highly trained in PPE and equipped to conduct our services in a controlled environment.

“We have been extremely patient awaiting guidelines to when we can reopen but sadly we have been totally disregarded and in our place pubs, restaurants and even non essential shops have been given the go ahead or dates to open.

“I welcome any clients who would like to book with Kayleigh for any extensions services to contact us through the page or via vogue1@mail.com

“I want to thank my clients for patiently waiting for me to reopen.

“Please note....I will not be answering any negative comments and these will be deleted”.

Kayleigh then updated customers this morning, thanking them for their responses – adding that appointments were fully booked.

A post said: “I am now fully booked until 8th July with exception to Tuesday 30th.

“Please contact the page to book not my personal page as I’m getting loads of double messages. Thank you girls.”

South Ayrshire Council have confirmed they are looking into it and a spokesperson said: “We realise that this is a difficult time for traders, however the legislation is quite clear, beauty and hair businesses cannot operate during the lockdown.

“We are in contact with the business owner.”

After being approached by the Ayrshire Post Kayleigh Simpson admitted she had backed down on the decision.

She said: "After further consideration and pending legal advice Vogue Hair & Beauty has decided to put on hold for the time being our reopening.

"However we will continue to liaise with our clients on an ongoing basis as per government guidelines on a reopening date for the hairdressing industry and beauty industry. Vogue Hair & Beauty will make no further comment on the matter."
