The deafening blast that rang out from the huge Ayr explosion has been caught on CCTV a staggering eight miles from the street it took place at.
Four Scots homes were damaged by the explosion, which took ripped through Gorse Park in Kincaidston, Ayr around 7.10pm on Monday October 18.
Two adults and two children have been taken to hospital after emergency services rushed to the scene.
It was initially thought the blast, which was said to sound like a bomb, could be heard up to three miles away.
But local man Stuart Smith's CCTV captured the sound of the explosion "nearly eight miles away" outside his home.
The 33-year-old, who lives in between Mossblown and Tarbolton, was stunned when he was alerted to the explosion by his camera.
He told the Daily Record: "I was at work but got a notification from my camera that is linked up to my phone, which is activated when there's a sound.
"I rewound the camera and watched it back but just assumed it was something to do with Prestwick Airport. But then it started coming out about the explosion.
"It was slightly windy on my camera but you could hear the full boom, it sounded like a bomb going off".
A number of premises were evacuated after the blast and two local rest centres have been set up to assist people.
Gas distribution company SGN confirmed their engineers were at the scene assisting emergency services.
Stuart continued: "I couldn't believe it was an explosion, I was just hoping that no one was seriously injured.
"As a community, I've seen everyone is pulling together this morning in times like these.
"But it's just terrifying."
Road closures near the site of the blast remain closed this morning with emergency services still at the scene.
Enquiries into the cause of the explosion remain ongoing.
In a statement, Police Scotland said: "Around 7.10pm on Monday, 18 October, emergency services were called to a report of an explosion on Gorse Park, Ayr.
"Four houses have been affected by the explosion.
"Two adults and two children have been taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock.
"A number of premises have been evacuated and two local rest centres have been set up to assist.
"Emergency services are currently at the scene working with other agencies.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the explosion.
"Local road closures are in place and we would advise people to avoid the area at the present time."
