Ayr explosion: All we know so far as devastating blast hits four homes and hospitalises residents

A giant explosion has it four Ayr homes last night sparking a huge emergency response in the town.

The massive blast has injured a number of residents in Kincaidston's Gorse Park and displaced many locals in neighbouring homes.

Alice Shaw, a neighbour who lives round the corner from the scene, said the explosion was "terrifying"

She said: "It sounded like a bomb went off. Our entire house shook and everything from the television to the pictures came off the wall. The scene is like something from ground zero. It is terrifying."

All we know so far

  • At 7.10pm last night an explosion devastated Gorse Park in the Kincaidston area of Ayr.
  • Four homes were hit by the blast as the shockwaves could be felt up to three miles away from the scene.
  • Four people — two kids and two adults — have been rushed to hospital.
  • Nearby residents were evacuated from their homes.
  • Police say the cause of the explosion is still being investigated.
  • Emergency services remain on the scene this morning.
  • Kindhearted Ayr residents and businesses are rallying round to help anyone affected.

Police response

Officers confirmed last night four people had been taken to hospital.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.10pm on Monday, October 18, emergency services were called to a report of an explosion on Gorse Park, Ayr.

"Four houses have been affected by the explosion.

"Two adults and two children have been taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock.


"A number of premises have been evacuated and two local rest centres have been set up to assist.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene working with other agencies.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the explosion.

"Local road closures are in place and we would advise people to avoid the area at the present time."
