Ayr & District Flower Show is appealing for volunteers and exhibitors to help “keep show tradition alive”.
The stellar show takes to Ayr Racecourse next month – on Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 – in a welcome return following a break due to the Covid pandemic.
The hotly-anticipated weekend will see crowds flock to enjoy the usual exhibitor classes of vegetables, flowers and pot plants, flower arranging, baking, handicrafts and trade stalls.
But the committee have issued an appeal, urging potential exhibitors to get their entry forms in to keep the showing custom going.
And they are on the hunt for volunteers to sell programmes, carry out various jobs and stewards who can watch over the exhibits, with each volunteer slot lasting roughly two hours.
A committee spokesperson said: “Schedules have been sent out and we are now waiting for the exhibitors to send in their entry forms. That is one thing we have no control over, it’s up to you so get those entries in.
“If you plan to exhibit for the first time and are not sure what you need to do, get in touch. There will be someone who can answer you questions and help in any way we can.
“After all we want as many people as possible to try their hand at showing. We need to keep the show tradition alive.”
The show includes a junior section with Lego models, posy of garden flowers, miniature gardens, fruit/vegetable animals and more getting the youngsters involved.
Families, groups or individuals are encouraged to get creative with the new scarecrow class, which is making its debut this year, to design a unique free-standing bird-scarer.
The committee say that there are only a few spaces left inside the marquee for traders, but plenty of spaces outside are still available.
