Ayr culture workshop launches cool new sign that gets people talking

It's a sign to make you stop in your tracks.

And that's just what Ayr designer, Kirsteen Barrie, wanted to accomplish.

"Lots of people are stopping to ask me what it means," says the mum-of-two.

"And that's great...it's what art should be all about."

Kirsteen, 40, is one of many volunteers helping out the new BREAD Arts Laboratory in Ayr High Street.

The venture aims to provide a new arts space for the town and become a "cultural and social hive for everybody".

The long term aim is to open a bakery selling homemade, real sourdough bread with money from sales reinvested into the lab.

Kirsteen said: "It seems a great project and the guys wanted a sign that would get people talking.

"Hopefully I've managed to achieve that."

Lab chief, Robert Singer, added: "We want Ayrshire people to take ownership of the laboratory and hold their own events, workshops, rehearsals, meetings and parties here.

"You can download a proposal form from www.freshayr.co.uk."
