An Ayrshire community is at the centre of a Covid outbreak after a small number of children tested positive for coronavirus.
Yesterday, Ayrshire Live revealed that almost 100 pupils at Belmont Academy in Ayr had to quarantine after an outbreak at the secondary school.
And we can confirm today that pupils who normally attend Kincaidston Primary less than two miles away have been infected with COVID-19.
However, health chiefs have confirmed that none of the pupils who have tested positive have attended school during their "infectious period".
Community contact tracing in the community of Kincaidston is being carried out as eight new infections were confirmed between Friday, April 13 and Monday, April 19 in the Castlehill and Kincaidston neighbourhood.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran's Test and Protect team are reaching out to a small number of people who are being told to self-isolate at home for 10 days.
Lynne McNiven, director of public health, said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test and Protect team is conducting community contact tracing relating to a very small number of children who normally attend Kincaidston Primary School in South Ayrshire who have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.
"The pupils have not been attending school during their infectious period.
"A small number of individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 10 days.
"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, it is not possible to release any further information at this time.
"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19): new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately."
