A cafe which gives customers the opportunity to enjoy a brew - and play a board game - has been told to clean up its act following a visit from Environmental Health officers.
Unboxed, in South Harbour Street, Ayr, has been panned for having an “unsatisfactory” food preparation area, out of date cheese, dirty equipment - and margarine which was four months past its ‘Best Before’ date.
A report to South Ayrshire Council detailed a number of failings at the cafe which gave inspectors cause for concern at the probe on November 19.
And it follows a previous inspection in November 2018 when similar problems were identified and not sorted.
The report stated: “The standard of cleanliness within the food preparation area was unsatisfactory, giving us cause for concern.
“In addition, there were no temperature records available to demonstrate compliance with temperature monitoring requirement.
“There was also no suitable protective clothing being worn by food handlers.
“This is despite these matters having been raised during previous inspection on November 28, 2018.”
The premises fell short of required standards in a total of ten key areas.
Officers found out of date Brie cheese which was immediately removed for disposal.
The report states: “This cheese was removed for disposal at the time of visit.”
Other issues raised included: dirty Panini grills and drip trays.
The microwave was unclean with dirty handles, seals and doors.
The interiors of both fridges; a dirty chopping board, dirty knife and dirty cake display cabinet were also highlighted.
The issues raised by inspectors have to be rectified at the premises within three months.
Unboxed was asked by the Ayrshire Post to respond to the inspection and what it was doing to comply.
They failed to comment.
