Ayr beach left like rubbish tip as South Ayrshire Council slams Bank Holiday crowds for leaving mess on sand

Bank Holiday crowds have been slammed for leaving Ayr beach resembling a rubbish tip.

We told yesterday how thousands had descended on the sands as temperatures soared.

But as the dust settled today, disappointed council chiefs revealed the scale of the clean-up operation left behind.

Taking to social media to post pictures of a litter-strewn beach, the local authority shared its dismay online.

A post on their Twitter feed read: "As COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease we want people to come and enjoy our beautiful beaches.

"We also want to keep them beautiful – and sadly, some of them are not looking great after the long weekend.

"Take a look at these photos of Ayr beach which were taken this morning.

"While we always maintain our schedule for emptying bins in these areas, sometimes, due to the volume of rubbish, they can become full quickly.

"If this happens, then please take your rubbish home and dispose of it responsibly.

"Our Neighbourhood Services team are now clearing up the mess that some irresponsible people left behind.

"Remember – leave nothing but your footprints on the beach."
