Ayr bar/restaurants robbed as country enters coronavirus lockdown

Two of Ayr's most popular bar/restaurants were broken into as the country entered coronavirus lockdown.

Smiths in the town centre and the Waterfront at the harbourside both reported being breached.

Bosses at Smiths have launched a Faebook appeal to help catch the culprits who broke into their premises last night.

Two hoods forced their way into the bar at around 9.15pm.

It came less than an hour after Prime Minister Boris Johnson had ordered Britons not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary in a bid to beat the Covid-19 crisis.

The Waterfront, which closed its doors on Friday, also reported that it had been broken into in broad daylight.

However, bosses had already emptied the building so nothing of any value could be taken.
