Ayoze Perez speaks of his 'pride' after finishing season as Newcastle United's top scorer

Ayoze Perez has revealed his pride after finishing the season as Newcastle United's top scorer with 13 goals.

Perez notched one more strike than last season, and ended the campaign just ahead of Salomon Rondon in the club's goalscoring chart.

The Spanish striker has been linked with a move away from the Magpies with Inter Milan and Napoli monitoring his situation.

But if Rafa Benitez stays, Perez may still want to be part of it on Tyneside - especially as he is now just two goals short of a half century in Toon colours.

After scoring in the 4-0 hammering against Fulham, Perez said: "It's something to be proud of - two years in a row, being the top goalscorer for the club is something that makes me proud of myself.

"And, obviously, to be able to win against Fulham, end the season on a high, and get a better position, finishing 13th."

The win was played out in front of over 4,000 Geordie fans who got tickets in either the away end or the neutral area.

Reflecting Inside Rafa Benitez's Press conference: How the Toon boss responded to talk of his future Perez said: "It was a great afternoon for all of us, and we cannot thank them enough for their support through the whole season.

"They are unbelievable away and at home.

"We cannot complain - this is something that not many clubs have, and we need to look after that and thank them, because they are always behind us."
