Ayoze Perez plays down talk of top scorer battle with Salomon Rondon ahead of Fulham clash

Ayoze Perez says that there is no in-house rivalry with Salomon Rondon for the honour of being Newcastle United's top goalscorer this season.

Perez goes into the final Premier League game of the season just one strike ahead of Rondon.

In all competitions, Rondon has 11 goals to his name while Perez has 12 but in terms of Premier League goals, Perez has 11 to his name, and is some way short of catching Loic Remy's tally of 14 for a top-flight campaign.

Remy is the highest scorer in recent years in terms of a seasonal total in Premier League football at St James' Park.

When asked if there was a competition going on in the squad, Perez said: "We should just appreciate we have been involved in 23 goals between each other, which is a great number.

"And, obviously, it's been a great partnership on the pitch.

"We are very good friends, very close to each other.

"So, there is no competition.

"I don't know who is going to finish as the first one, but, there is no competition!"

Sunday's game against Fulham could be the last time Newcastle fans see both players.

Rondon does not have a permanent move to Newcastle lined up yet while Perez has been linked with Inter Milan and Napoli this week.
