Aymeric Laporte trains ahead of Man City Premier League opener vs West Ham

Aymeric Laporte has returned to training ahead of Manchester City's Premier League game with West Ham.

The French defender, one of the outstanding players during the domestic clean sweep last season, missed the Community Shield win over Liverpool at the weekend with a slight problem.

His absence emphasised the need for the Blues to keep him fit for as long as possible given they have not signed a central defender in the summer transfer window.

There will be relief among supporters, then, that the injury does not appear to be serious as the 25-year-old was back with the rest of the squad on Wednesday afternoon as they trained in preparation for the defence of their Premier League title.

The Blues kick off at 12.30pm this Saturday at the London Stadium against Manuel Pellegrini's West Ham, a team they beat in the first game of their pre-season tour.
