Aymeric Laporte's Man City playing time admission amid transfer uncertainty

Aymeric Laporte refused to answer a question over his Manchester City future, but did admit to being unhappy at his lack of playing time this season.

With Manu Akanji arriving in the summer and Nathan Ake performing well all season, Laporte has found games harder to come by this term and has slipped down the defensive pecking order. He has just 24 appearances from a possible 60 this season, although he has been injured or unavailable for 16 of those, and has been an unused substitute more times than he has started.

Laporte has begun just nine of the last 24 games he has been available for, all of which coming in fixtures before or after key matches in the title race, FA Cup or Champions League knockout rounds.

His only contribution as a 94th minute substitute in the FA Cup final on Saturday was to take a throw-in, and he spoke to reporters after the win at Wembley to voice his frustrations at how the season has gone.

Asked if he has enjoyed this season, with City on course for a treble, Laporte replied: "Personally, much less than other seasons. It’s true that I’ve played a bit less but the most important thing is the team, the points, the matches and the trophies."

With reports suggesting he could leave City this summer in search of more minutes, Laporte was then asked what will happen after the end of the season, but he declined to answer the question, saying he 'can't talk about these things'. Laporte has two years left on his City contract, having signed an extension in 2019.
