Aymeric Laporte’s cheeky message to Kevin De Bruyne following Newcastle win

Man City defender Aymeric Laporte has sent a cheeky message to teammate Kevin De Bruyne after the 2-0 FA Cup win over Newcastle.

City were comfortable victors in the FA Cup quarter-final at St James’ Park thanks to goals from De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling seeing them through to the semi-final at Wembley where they will face Arsenal.

The win means that despite now not being able to catch Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title, City are still able to complete a cup treble.

Having already won the Carabao Cup this season, Pep Guardiola’s side are still in the running for both the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Unsurprisingly, one of the most impressive performers for City this season is Kevin De Bruyne, who has put an injury-hit campaign in 2018/19 behind him and has picked up where he left off the previous season.

The Belgian is often praised for his vision and passing ability, but now could have competition from Laporte.

The French defender has taken to social media to share a moment from the win over Newcastle where he played a brilliant cross-field pass over to Phil Foden in the build-up to City’s second goal of the game.

Alongside the clip, Laporte wrote: “Legend says KdB is jealous of my left foot…” with some eyes and laughing emojis.

Laporte himself has had problems with injury this season but has been able to step up his recovery during the three-month break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 26-year-old has played a part in all three league games since the restart and played the full 90 minutes of the cup tie against Newcastle.

The clean sheet that Laporte helped the defence keep was the third in four games since the restart. If the Frenchman can continue to add creativity as well as defensive solidity to the City team then that can only be a good thing for Pep Guardiola’s team.
