Aymeric Laporte gives assessment of Man City's defensive performance vs Norwich

Injured Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has branded his side's defeat against Norwich City at the weekend as an "accident".

The game against the Canaries was City's first since the Frenchman went under the knife to fix a knee injury sustained against Brighton.

In his absence, Pep Guardiola fielded Nicolas Otamendi alongside John Stones and the Argentine's calamitous performance directly contributed to the defeat.

The former Valencia man was caught out of position for Norwich's second goal before failing to release the ball allowing Teemu Pukki to fire home their third.

Laporte, who is sidelined for six months according to Guardiola, believes the result was an "accident" and pledged his support to his teammates from the sidelines.

He wrote on Twitter: "Yesterday it was just an accident! Full support to the team! C’mon City!"

City will hope to bounce back after the defeat when they face Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening Champions League group game on Wednesday, September 18.
