Axel Tuanzebe signs new Manchester United contract

Axel Tuanzebe has signed a new Manchester United contract.

Tuanzebe, 21, has inked a three-year contract with the option of an additional year after spending last season on loan at Aston Villa.

The Rochdale-raised defender started Villa's Championship Play-off semi-final and final wins over West Brom and Derby and has returned to commit his future to United.

Tuanzebe said: "I have grown up at Manchester United and it has always been a big part of my life and my family's life.

"I appreciate the trust that the club has in me and I want to repay that with my performances on the pitch.

"I know I have a lot of hard work and learning ahead of me but the experience I gained throughout last season puts me in good stead for the future ahead. I am determined to give everything and show everyone the player that I can be.

"I can't wait for the tour to get started and see what the upcoming season brings."

Tuanzebe first made the United matchday squad aged 17 at Crystal Palace in October 2015 and earned his debut in the FA Cup fourth round win over Wigan in January 2017.

The Congo-born centre-back has started five times for United and made three substitute appearances.

Tuanzebe is already a veteran of three pre-season tours with United and will travel with the rest of the squad to Perth for their four-game tour of Australasia on Sunday.

United earlier announced Andreas Pereira has inked a four-year deal.
