Axel Tuanzebe sends Manchester United message ahead of derby vs Man City

Manchester United have nothing to fear when they travel to Manchester City on Saturday after seeing off Tottenham this week.

United produced a disciplined performance to see off Jose Mourinho's rejuvenated Spurs side on Wednesday thanks to a Marcus Rashford brace.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have fared better against the bigger clubs this season, remaining unbeaten in games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs in the Premier League. Up next is City, who are looking for three points to keep their title challenge on track.

But however fired up City may be, Axel Tuanzebe insists United are fully confident of getting a result at the Etihad after beating Spurs this week.

“Tottenham are not the easiest of sides [to play]," Tuanzebe told MUTV.

"They’re having their troubles at the moment but it’s always going to be a tough game against Spurs. Coming out and getting the three points just boosts us and gives us more positive energy towards the City game.

“We’re going in with our heads held high and coming out, hopefully, with three points.”

United have only won one of the last five derbies against City, which came at the Etihad in 2017/18. Regardless of that record, Tuanzebe insists United are looking to win both meetings with City this season.

“It’s one of the biggest games in the calendar,” the defender from Rochdale continued.

“We want to win the game both home and away. We want to take the fight to them and, obviously, elevate our place in the table.

“You kind of know which side [of the city] is red and which side is blue. Openshaw and that way is more blue and the likes of Salford and Trafford area is more red.

“It’s a big division in the city and we want [Manchester] to be painted red.”
