Axel Tuanzebe makes admission about new Manchester United position

Axel Tuanzebe insists his future still lies at centre-back despite impressing in midfield during Manchester United's goalless draw with Real Sociedad on Thursday night.

The 23-year-old came on for Fred at half-time and played alongside Nemanja Matic as United secured their place in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Despite his natural ability as a defender Tuanzebe acquitted himself well in a midfield role, and was only denied his first goal for the club by a VAR intervention.

Tuanzebe headed in from a corner but saw the goal ruled out after replays highlighted a foul from Victor Lindelof in the penalty area.

Speaking after the match Tuanzebe reiterated his desire to play as a centre-back for United but insisted he was happy to play anywhere required for the good of the team.

"(Being played in midfield) is just something the gaffer did," he told BT Sport. "We did not get the win but we are through.

"I am a versatile player, my natural place is central defence but I did it for the team. It is a while since I played in midfield but most important thing is that we are through.

"The season has been up and down for me and we need to get more minutes and momentum."
