Axel Tuanzebe explains what Solskjaer told Manchester United youngsters before Astana win

Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told his young squad players that they will get their first team chance if they earn it.

Tuanzebe started for United against Astana in the Europa League along with four other academy graduates - Marcus Rashford, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and goalscorer Mason Greenwood.

For Greenwood, Gomes and Chong, it was the first time the trio have started together at senior level, with only Greenwood having started a first team game before.

And Tuanzebe - who is relatively new to the first team himself - says Solskjaer's confidence in his young players allows them to feel as comfortable as they can be when they get minutes for the first team.

Speaking to MUTV he said: "It’s amazing [starting five academy players], it’s what the club’s about. It’s our identity. We want to bring young players through, confidently, and the manager has faith in his young talent which is important in the training ground saying ‘if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.'"

On Greenwood's first goal for United, Tuanzebe said it came as no surprise to his teammates.

"We see him doing it day in, day out so we have confidence in him, the manager has confidence in him," Tuanzebe explained.

"It’s good for him to portray his talent and good for him to help the team win."

On his own performance, Tuanzebe said his partnership with Phil Jones made life easier as he looks to stake a further claim for first team minutes.

He explained: "I’ve known Phil for a long time, I’ve been around him for a long time, I’ve trained with him for a long period of time. It’s nothing new to me, he’s a good person and player and we learn from each other to continue the progression."
