- Axel Rudakubana, who was jailed for life with a minimum term of 52 years for the murders of three girls and attempted murder in Southport , has been transferred from Belmarsh prison to Broadmoor psychiatric hospital.
- The families of the victims, through their lawyer Chris Walker, have accused Rudakubana of attempting to 'manipulate the system' with this transfer, which comes as the second anniversary of the attacks approaches.
- The Ministry of Justice confirmed the transfer was approved by officials following an independent clinical assessment under the Mental Health Act, emphasising that it does not change his 52-year sentence.
- Concerns were raised by Mark Fairhurst, national chairman of the POA union, regarding Rudakubana potentially receiving benefits as a patient and the safety of staff, while junior housing minister Sally Jameson stated he would be returned to prison 'as soon as possible'.
- Rudakubana's history includes an alleged attack on a prison officer, three referrals to the anti-terror programme Prevent, and previous mental health care engagement with Alder Hey children’s NHS foundation.
