The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with
Whispers Beirut: The Champion
This duo is the best thing to come out of Sweden since Björn Borg. One day they’ll release music somewhere other than Soundcloud. I’ll be waiting, Jerry Heller to their NWA.
The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
The House Crew: Keep The Fire Burning
You can’t go wrong with a bit of UK hardcore. This monster will put a smile on the face of anyone over 35.
The track I wish I’d signed to my label
Baby Ford: Parallel Life
I keep revisiting this track, falling in love every time. It’s so beautiful and simple. The only times I hear it out is when DJ Sprinkles plays, but I’m sure she’s not the only one who loves it.
The track I think has been unfairly slept on this year
Robyn ft Maluca: Love Is Free (Mr Tophat’s Remix, Dedicated To The Memory Of Falkis RIP)
I love everything about this and the people involved: pop-princess Robyn; the remix by the wonderfully weird Mr Tophat; and the tribute to the Swedish producer-legend Christian Falk.
The track I’d play to show off my eclectic tastes
La Batterie: Shogun
One of those random finds in a cheap secondhand store, an amazing proto-techno new-wave groove that everyone asks about.
The track that got me out of bed this morning
Jamie xx: Loud Places (John Talabot Dub)
This track went viral when I played it on [New York radio show] Beats In Space, and I think the label wasn’t happy about it leaking. I’m still afraid they hate me!
The track I’d play at my auntie’s wedding
Kaah: Innan Du Går
Swedish R&B crooner Kaah is a hero and this is his best song, proving that the Swedish language occasionally can sound pretty cool. He is often called Sweden’s Prince which, of course, is unfair to everybody. But also, maybe, understandable.
The track that should have been a crossover hit
Lukas Nystrand von Unge: Gamla Skolan
This is a hit! Like most songs by Lukas, this has a killer hook and a beautiful, escapist pop quality. Everybody needs more Lukas in their lives!
The track I’d play at my funeral
Daft Punk: Make Love
The best Daft Punk song! Most people have forgotten Human After All, I think, but this album track stood the test of time. I will always love it.
