Axed Ospreys coach Allen Clarke turns up in unlikely new job months after mysterious exit

Former Ospreys coach Allen Clarke has made a surprise return to rugby as a coaching consultant for Ystradgynlais RFC.

The former Ireland hooker left the Liberty Stadium region in bizarre circumstances late last year, with his departure not being confirmed by the Ospreys until five weeks after he had initially left.

The whole saga was shrouded in mystery, with James Hook and forwards coach Richie Pugh forced to answer questions on Clarke's departure the next day at the Guinness PRO14 launch as the Ospreys failed to make any public statement on the issue.

Now, just under six months later, Clarke's next job in rugby also happens to be in Wales again - only this time in Division 2 West Central.

Ystradgynlais confirmed Clarke would be working with the club on their social media channels on Monday evening, alongside the announcement of a new coach and team manager.

Former Ystradglynlais back-row Andy Davies will take over as Head Coach of the first team, while Rowan Davies will work as the Team Manager.

In a statement, Ystradgynlais said: "The club can today confirm that former Ireland, Northampton Saints and Ulster player Allen Clarke will work with the club as a coaching consultant.

"Allen has been Head Coach at the Ospreys, Ireland Under 20s and Ireland A.

"This role will see Allen support the coaching team at senior, junior and mini level.

"Allen will work on strength and conditioning, player development and specific positions supporting the whole club adopt "a one club" policy."

Clarke left the Ospreys after a disastrous run of results in the early part of this season.

But Ospreys chairman Rob Davies claimed the situation actually "became a matter of personal conduct".
