A new operator will take over the 130 bus route after it is axed - but it will run a heavily reduced service.
Arriva will stop running the route, between East Didsbury and Macclesfield town centre, on January 26.
The decision has been made due to dwindling passenger numbers.
Transport leaders at Cheshire East Council have now confirmed that a new company, D&G Bus, has stepped in to take over.
But it will operate a hugely reduced service, only running between Handforth and Macclesfield.
The service will be no use for passengers like Lori Cummings, who relies on the 130 to get from her home in Macclesfield to The Christie in Withington for cancer treatment .
Her partner Paul Anderson said: "It's useless. They may as well have just scrubbed it. I just can't see what it's going to achieve."
A spokesman for TfGM said: "The service is being withdrawn by Arriva and being replaced by D&G, but only on the Cheshire side."
Arriva said the decision to cut the 130 service was due to a low number of passengers.
A spokesman said: "Passenger numbers have been falling for a number of years and Arriva have made several changes to attempt to make the service sustainable, unfortunately passenger numbers have continued to decrease.
"Therefore, the 130 is no longer commercially viable, low passenger numbers and increasing running costs means that this service will be withdrawn."
