Dec Donnelly's awkward joke to Holly Willoughby revealed as Ant steps aside at BAFTAs

I’m A Celebrity host Ant McPartlin awkwardly joined Holly Willoughby and Declan Donnelly on stage during the BAFTA TV Awards 2019, as the show won the award for Reality and Constructed Factual.

While the Geordie TV presenter wasn't part of this year's series due to his post-rehab recovery, he still made his way up to accept the award with the rest of the crew, standing aside so that Holly and Dec could take the glory.

However, there was one awkward comment that some people missed, as while Ant valiantly backed away, Dec turned to Holly and joked: "Oh, you were in it weren't you?"

He then went on to thank Holly for "helping [him] out," throughout the latest series.

Taking the mic, Dec also thanked the crew and fans for their support, before revealing Ant was “reluctant” to go on stage having not been a part of the last series.

But Dec insisted he was still deserving of celebrating the win despite not being present Down Under.

He said: “I’d like to thank Holly for helping me out last year, she did a fantastic job standing in for Ant who reluctantly come up here tonight.

“There he is, he’s still part of the team so I wanted him up here to celebrate with us.”

And while some thought the gesture to Ant was sweet, others were less than impressed with Dec's quip at Holly.

"Dec May as well have just patted Holly on the head. She didn’t help you out. She was your co-host and was apart of the win in her own right. Silly man," one disgruntled viewer wrote.

While another added: "Oh gosh no this is awkward #BaftaTV #antanddec 'oh you were in it weren’t you...thanks for helping me out...'

"I didn’t even see I’m a celebrity but obviously know the context but noooo felt like you should have said something Holly!"
