'Awkward' — Manchester United fans have Cristiano Ronaldo concern after he clarifies comments

Manchester United fans are more than a little worried after Cristiano Ronaldo denied sending a message over his future at the club.

Supporters were left lauding another special performance from the Portuguese ace on Monday night, as he continued his fine run of form in the final home game of the season against Brentford. Ronaldo scored from the spot, and had a goal ruled out by VAR, during a superb all-round display to take his tally up to 24 in all competitions this season.

There has been plenty of doubt over the 37-year-old’s future at Old Trafford, though, with United looking set to miss out on Champions League football next season. Speculation has suggested he could leave the club in the summer, despite having a year remaining on his contract.

Fans were buoyed then when the forward seemed to drop a hint over his future as he began a lap around the pitch after Monday’s game. Ronaldo said something as the camera zoomed in on him, with some fans suggesting he'd said: I’m not finished’.

Ronaldo though has denied making the comment. Replying on Instagram to a fan account relaying the supposed message, the United star said: “I didn’t say that.”

The Portugal international’s reaction has thrown fresh doubt over his future with United. Predictably, lots of supporters were left a little panicked by the response.

Other fans though remain confident that Ronaldo will stay at Old Trafford next season. Their belief has been backed up by interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who said: “He’s got another year of his contract, and as far as I know he will be here next season again.”

With two games still remaining in the season, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Ronaldo at United. With Erik ten Hag arriving as manager at the end of the campaign, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s decision will no doubt prove to be a huge talking point in his early days in charge.
