Awkward ITV Good Morning Britain moment Richard Bacon is asked if he is coming back

Richard Bacon was awkwardly asked if he was coming back on to Good Morning Britain following his first two appearances on the show standing in for Piers Morgan.

As the ITV breakfast programme came to a close, co-host Kate Garraway asked if the 43-year-old would be coming back.

Shuffling in his chair, he said: "Well, that is down to the editor."

Kate, putting her finger to her ear piece, said: "Oh, the editor says you are welcome back anytime."

It comes after yesterday's on-screen stunt when GMB editor Neil Thompson interrupted Richard's interview with Star Wars and Harry Potter actor Warwick Davis to give him an ultimatum.

The editor stood over him and said: "It is either this [holding a brown envelope with the words 'P45' on] or this [a bottle of shaving cream and a razor]."

Where is Piers Morgan? When will he be back on ITV Good Morning Britain?

It was an indication for Richard to shave off his stubble and be clean-shaven ahead of his next show or he wouldn't be allowed to host.

Laughing, Richard said: "Let's leave this in the air, will I take the P45?"

Obviously, he took the razor as he appeared today clean-shaven and went on to thank the team, saying how he would love to come back.

He said: "It's been wonderful, it is a fantastic team and I have loved working with you."

And he seemed to hit the right note with a lot of loyal viewers.

One on Twitter said: "Fantastic team today! Please keep Richard and Kate as the main presenters! And Alex is the best weather presenter."

Another added: "Au revoir Richard Bacon, it’s been a pleasure having you back on TV, you’ve made me smile all week when I get ready for work. Don’t be a stranger."
