"Awful and disgusting" - mouse filmed scurrying around restaurant storage unit

A video showing a mouse scuttling around a storage unit for restaurant Nudo Sushi Box has left a customer "disgusted".

The woman says she was walking along Oldham Road in Manchester on Saturday night when she spotted the mouse scuttling about inside a storage unit with Nudo Sushi Box signs visible on the doors.

Restaurant bosses have told the MEN that they have ongoing measures in place to tackle any pest issues at this and all their UK sites and take all hygiene matters extremely seriously.

The woman, who asked not to be named, took a video of the moment she saw the mouse which she said is "awful and disgusting".

Nudo Sushi Box has a number of restaurants across the north west and north east - including three in Manchester at Spinningfields, Oxford Street and Piccadilly.

The woman said: "Just walked past Nudo Box in Manchester on Oldham road, from the look of it, it’s their storage unit.

"But I saw a mouse. Which is awful and disgusting, I used to order food from them many times."

In the video, the rodent is seen scuttling around inside the storage room, which has Nudo Sushi Box signs inside the windows.

A number of boxes are stacked onto shelves, while cans of pop are seen stacked up on the floor in plastic wrappings.

The mouse is seen in the video scurrying around close to the doorway, where some small black grains are visible on the grey floor around a Welcome doormat.

Terence Lee, Nudo Sushi Box's area manager, said that stringent measures are in place across all of its restaurant and storage sites to tackle pests, and pointed to the Oldham Road storage base having a 5-star hygiene rating.

A thorough investigation was launched after the video came to light, and Mr Lee said he believed it to be "an anomaly".

Mr Lee said: "We have thoroughly inspected through everything. We inspect everyday within our dry storage area and have found no mouse droppings or other signs of pest and this is the first time we have noticed this sighting.

"None of our dried goods packaging has been bitten through nor has holes. All our food as you can see in the video is kept off the ground. We will continue to monitor thoroughly.

"Also to remind people that we have pest bait boxes placed around and outside of the building from our pest control company.

"I have organised as a matter of urgency for our pest contractor to come out to investigate thoroughly and solve any matters.

"It seems to be an anomaly as every staff member is trained to check for pest.

"With it being an empty land at the back it’s inevitable that a mouse sometimes can find a way in even the tiniest of holes (even more so the baby mouse) or when the doors are opened intermittently to look around even if there is no food for them.

"EHO did say in general Manchester has a lot of mice around and that the whole area we are in on Oldham Road may see an increase in activity for mouse."

He added: "We want to continue to reassure our customers that we take hygiene, food and safety very seriously and that we are looking to resolve this matter urgently.

"However we will class this case as an anomaly.

"Despite this we have organised for a pest contractor to come out ASAP as a matter of urgency. We won't neglect this matter at all."
