Award-winning Nottingham restaurant forced to close as staff self isolate

A Nottingham restaurant has been forced to close down until next week due to staff having to self isolate.

Award-winning Japanese grill restaurant Kushi-ya has been getting in touch with diners booked in to rearrange their reservations for the next few nights.

A message was posted on social media which said: "Unfortunately we are having to close till the 18th due to staff isolating. We are completely gutted! Massive apologies to anyone booked in this week.

"We are working through the bookings and will give you a call to re-book your table if you wish. Our sister bar Yokocho is still open this week so if you're in town please pop in for a drink and support us there. Big love team Kushi-ya."

Chefs work out one of the smallest open kitchens in Nottingham at the restaurant which serves chicken sando and skewers with a Japanese twist over charcoal.

One of the diners who had booked in said: "It's disappointing as we were going there to celebrate my daughter's birthday but the closure can't be helped. We share their frustration. It's a small restaurant so they're doing the right thing to protect their team and customers."

The restaurant, in Cannon Court, off Long Row, won Best Newcomer in the Nottinghamshire Food and Drink Awards in 2019 and the gong for World Cuisine Restaurant of the Year 2020-21 in the Great Food Club Awards.

Since restaurants, pubs and bars reopened in May, staff having to isolate has been a further obstacle in what has been a horrendous 16 months for hospitality.

Yokocho, the bar in Hurts Yard specialising in Japanese drinks such as sake, had to close for a spell in mid-July while staff self-isolated.
