Award-winning Nottingham fish and chip shop says mushy peas on toast is 'breakfast of champs'

We're told it's the most important meal of the day but just what makes the best breakfast is certainly up for debate.

While those after something a little more fancy may opt for smashed avocado on toast, eggs Benedict or maybe even a cheeky croque monsieur others will claim you cannot beat a full English with a builder's brew.

Well, the bosses behind Nottingham's own multi-award winning fish and chip shop, The Cod's Scallops, have thrown another contender into the ringing, calling it the "Breakfast of champions".

Taking to Twitter the eatery, which just last month won the prestigious accolade of being the best fish and chip shop in the whole UK, shared a picture of their morning scran...

A plate baring two buttered slices of white bread with a generous slathering of mushy peas.

The photo was accompanied with the caption "The breakfast of champs! Anyone else for mushy peas on toast? Tastes like scrambled egg on toast."

That's right the critically acclaimed foodies in the kitchen of the National Fish and Chip Awards' champions claim it tastes like scrambled eggs.

Unsurprisingly the post divided opinion.

On Twitter user Bobby Joyce commented: "Mushy Peas - AKA Northern Caviar" but Nordic Laura didn't agree and instead shared a gif with the words "Excuse me, I have to go and vomit".

There's no word as to whether the dish will be on the menu anytime soon. Would you try it if it was?
