Award-winning Nottingham chip shop has been closed for weeks - with no sign of re-opening

An award-winning chip shop in Nottingham city centre has been closed for weeks - and there's no sign of it re-opening again.

A notice in the window of Sauce 'Em Chips states "closed for maintenance" but there doesn't appear to be any work going on, the drinks fridge has gone and a pile of mail lies unopened on the floor.

Workers at a nearby business in Wheeler Gate said: "They've gone for good."

Earlier this year the chippy in Wheeler Gate won an award for Gourmet Chip Shop 2019 from Lux Life Magazine for its cones of twice-cooked Belgian fries, spiced up with a choice of 20 sauces such as bourbon BBQ and sweet chilli, and seasonings.

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted the owner but is still awaiting a response. In the meantime, if you've got withdrawal symptoms Frites 33, in Upper Parliament Street, serves a similar menu.
