Award winning military museum reopens following revamp

West Lothian’s Award winning Military Museum Scotland has re-opened following a small refurbishment so that more artefacts can be displayed.

Military Museum Scotland is more than just a museum, it has also become a hub for veterans.

Every day the museum is open to the public, it is also acts a drop-in for veterans, where they can pop in for a cuppa and a chat.

Not only that, it is also home to West Lothian’s first Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club, which meet on the second and last Sunday of every month from 9am until 11.30am.

The future looks exciting for Military Museum Scotland, new displays and exhibits are added every week, both indoor and outdoors, including a replica World War One trench, an army field kitchen and on its way soon, a Saracen Armoured Car.

The Saracen is a restoration project for veterans, so if you are a veteran and want to get involved, pop into the museum for a chat.

Another new arrival will be the opening of the ‘Front Line’, an Airsoft shooting range sponsored by Section 8 Airsoft.

Ian Inglis said: “The museum really does have something for everyone. Events are planned for every month, whether during the day, evenings or over a weekend, there’s always something happening at Military Museum Scotland.

“The museum is also available for private bookings, meetings etc. One of our regular users are the West Lothian Branch of the Royal Artillery Association. So if you are a Gunner in West Lothian, meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm.”

At the moment the museum is manned and managed totally by volunteers, not just veterans.

They are always looking for more suitable volunteers, so if you think that might be you, get in touch. milmussco@aol.co.uk.
