Award-winning Indian takeaway set to open a restaurant in Nottingham

An award-winning Indian takeaway is set to expand into Nottingham city centre with a 100-seater restaurant.

The move follows the success of Rikshaw Urban Indian Kitchen, which opened in Sherwood 18 months ago - and a third site will be revealed later this year.

Rikshaw will be taking over Peppers, a former hair salon in Trinity Square.

Following a change of use approved by Nottingham City Council, work will begin to transform the property into Rikshaw's distinctive style ready to open around Easter time.

"Be prepared to tuck into our tasty authentic street food and see the magic happening fresh off the live grill.

"Freshly made salad bowls, toasted Bombay sandwiches, famous dum biryani and homestyle curries inspired by the tuk-tuk drivers in Delhi and Mumbai will be served.

"Our Rikshaw chapati rolls will be great for on the go. A wide range of fresh drinks and our famous mango lassi will be on tap. We will be twisting the current menu and creating even more street food dishes that will reinvent Indian cuisine."

The 16-seat outlet in Mansfield Road, Sherwood, was crowned the East Midlands' Takeaway of the Year in a prestigious national competition last year and was a runner-up in the category for best Indian restaurant in the 2019 NottinghamshireLive Food and Drink Awards.

The main focus in Sherwood is on takeaway and home delivery, but the new restaurant will be considerably bigger with seating for up to 100 split over two floors.

FHP commercial property agent Jack Shakespeare, who completed the deal, said: "The changing face of the high street is apparent everywhere and we continue to see entrepreneurial individuals taking opportunities to grow existing and new businesses.

"Rikshaw Kitchen is serving some of the best Indian food around, it is great to see that they have continued to refine and develop their concept and expand into the city centre."

Owner Shani Shafiq said: "We are now ready to bring our award-winning food to the city centre. Our menu will be hugely exciting and innovative.
