Award-winning food surplus company announces link-up with retail chain Wilko

An award-winning company that deals in surplus food and household products has sealed a major partnership with one of the UK’s largest retailers.

The Company Shop Group, which is based in Barnsley, redistributes food and consumer goods to people in need through its Company Shop and Community Shop networks.

It has now signed a deal with national retailer Wilko to redistribute health, beauty and confectionery items.

The link up comes just a few weeks after the Company Shop Group won its third Queen’s Award for Enterprise, this time in the promoting opportunity category.

Lee Wood, trading director for Company Shop Group said: “We’re delighted to have wilko on board to redistribute its surplus stock through Company Shop and Community Shop stores.

“We work with businesses of all shapes and sizes, across multiple categories, to redistribute surplus stock and deliver an environmental, social and commercial return for our partners. We look forward to supporting wilko and delivering a long-term solution for them.”

The Company Shop Group has stores in some of the UK’s most deprived communities that are open to individuals and families who are in receipt of welfare support.

As well as providing food and other essential items, they aim to offer personal development support, helping to rebuild lives and develop long-term change in communities.

Jerome Saint-Marc, Wilko chief executive, said: “Showing we care isn’t just something we do at wilko, it’s one of our core values.

“We care about local families and also the environment so when we were asked to get involved in the ethical redistribution of surplus stock to prevent it from going into landfill, and help families’ hard earned cash go even that bit further, we jumped at the chance.

“We understand we all have a part to play in our wider communities and want to make sure we do our bit as it’s the little wins that make a world of difference.”
