AN award-winning family-run distillery in Edinburgh that won gin-producer of the year in 2025 has fallen into liquidation.
Secret Garden Distillery confirmed it has “entered voluntary liquidation and is no longer trading” in a statement just months after it was crowned the best gin-producer in the UK.
Located just outside Edinburgh, at Old Pentland Road, Lothianburn, the distillery was best known for its luxury gin and for putting nature at “the heart of everything” they produced.
However, recent documents submitted to Companies House show a change of address for the Secret Garden Distillery Limited to the joint liquidators Gareth David Wilcox and Mark Harper of Opus Restructuring in Glasgow.
A public notice shows a special resolution was made that “the company be wound up voluntarily”.
The firm also confirmed it has ceased trading with a statement on its website that reads: “Secret Garden Distillery Limited has entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation and is no longer trading.”
Founded on a derelict plot in 2012, the garden in Old Pentland Road was transformed into a “secret oasis”, providing an “escape from city life” for its owners.
The business was founded by two sisters who placed their commitment to nature-led, sustainable distillation at the heart of their operation.
Since its founding, the distillery quickly earned recognition for its garden-grown botanicals and craft-first ethos.
The company’s website states that the garden is home to 600 varieties of plants that the firm harvests on site to be included in its gins.
“Where providence is at the heart of everything, from seed to sip,” it said.
Adding: “The Secret Garden gins are lovingly crafted to reflect our passion and our commitment to sustainable production, which is environmentally friendly both for our customers and for the wild-life that inhabit our gardens.
“We use 100% natural products: no preservatives; no chemical nasties in fertilisers; no pesticides.
“The Distillery Garden is home to a wide range of hand harvested botanicals which are used in some of the gins and inspire the flavours of others.”
Secret Garden Distillery was named UK Gin Producer of the Year 2025 by the IWSC & Club Oenologique in an award that was described as judging entries “solely on liquid quality”.
The distillery also won two Design & Packaging Master Gold awards from The Spirits Business for 2024, along with earlier taste award wins.
Its range of luxury gins also won Gold and Silver awards at The Spirits Business Gin Masters 2024 Awards.
