Award-winning cafe to open new site in Nottingham city centre

Award-winning cafe and bakery, the Bakehouse, is expanding - this time into Nottingham city centre.

It's five years since the Craig and Rosea Poynter opened the business in Mansfield Road, Sherwood.

Now, they have taken over a property in Carlton Street, Hockley, which used to be Jazz Hairdressing.

Craig said: "We will be effectively replicating what we do in Sherwood. A cafe bakery, with artisan breads, cakes and other bakes as well as a full food offering.

"There will be coffee from local roasters Cartwheel and retail from other Nottinghamshire producers and suppliers.

"We will have eating inside and out. We aim to be open in a couple of months."

Craig has just signed a five-year lease in Sherwood as well and all the baking will be done in the open plan bakery there.

They will also be launching bread classes from their Sherwood site soon.

The Bakehouse won the accolade for Best Cafe in the 2018 Nottinghamshire Food and Drink Awards and its garlic and herb sourdough scooped gold at the prestigious World Bread Awards in London.

Craig, who used to work in Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant and Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane, always harboured a passion for bread, after learning the art while working in the kitchen at Langar Hall in 2008.

In 2013 he started to bake artisan loaves at home, which were an instant success at weekend farmers’ markets.

Jazz Hairdressing closed in July after 32 years. The deal with the Bakehouse was brokered by Box Property.
