Award-winning Bristol restaurant reopens as city centre pop-up

Considering its pizzas were award-winning, it wasn't surprising that the closure of Flour & Ash last year sparked sadness among Bristol's food scene.

The Cheltenham Road pizzeria said it was "very hard to weather a storm like this" as it bowed out after six years in July, before it was revealed the site would become the new home of vegan restaurant Koocha.

But fans of the beloved pizza joint will be pleased to hear its top notch creations are available once again, after its owner teamed up with one of Bristol's best-known hospitality groups.

Flour & Ash founder Steve Gale has joined forces with Hyde & Co bosses Nathan Lee, Jason Mead and Kevin Stokes to bring a new collaborative pizza and cocktail pop-up to the city centre.

Nathan, Jason and Kevin have run Hyde & Co for more than 10 years, overseeing some of Bristol's most popular bars and restaurants including the eponymous Hyde & Co, The Milk Thistle, The Ox, Bambalan and Seven Lucky Gods.

They will be welcoming Steve to the Bambalan kitchen so he can rustle up his signature wood-fired pizzas, which diners will be able to order for delivery or click and collect throughout lockdown.

To wash the pizzas down, customers will also be able to order bottled cocktails mixed by the award-winning Hyde & Co bartenders.

Speaking about the collaboration, Steve said: "It was a sad day when Covid-19 closed the doors on Flour & Ash.

"However the Bristol food scene is a supportive, creative and resilient beast and we are over the moon that the legendary team from Bambalan has helped us rise again from the ashes.

"This is to be a true collaboration, so expect to see some signature pizzas from the Flour & Ash greatest hits catalogue, some new stuff and some Bambalan flavour thrown into the mix.

"We cannot wait to start cooking for you Bristol."

Flour & Ash gained a place in the Waitrose Good Food Guide and won 'best pizza' at the Bristol Good Food Awards in 2018.

Flour & Ash at Bam is offering delivery through Deliveroo and click and collect from Bambalan and will be open for orders from 4pm - 10pm seven days a week, operating within Bambalan’s Covid-secure policies.

The new menu has been created collaboratively by Steve and Hyde & Co’s executive chef, Todd Francis, and will feature some of the pizzeria's signature favourites as well as new creations.
