An award-winning Ayrshire chip shop will be dishing up free food to punters this Friday.
The Fish Works in Largs is getting everyone in the mood for the Bank Holiday weekend by dolling out free grub.
The family-run business, which was recently named as one of the UK's best takeaways for a second successive year, will be handing out a limited amount of scampi portions.
Partnering with Love Seafood by Seafish, the chippy is promoting scampi as an option for people to consider as an alternative to the usual takeaway favourite.
The first 50 customers to get along on Friday will be able to get a gratis taster portion of the bite-sized seafood treat.
The Fish Works, based at Largs promenade, make their scampi using langoustine tails, sourced locally from Scottish waters and served in their signature golden batter.
The giveaway comes in the run up to National Fish & Chip Day, which will take place on Friday, June 4 and is a celebration of the nation’s favourite takeaway dish and the people who cook and serve this classic.
Tiffany Irvin, owner of The Fish Works, said: “We’re so excited to be celebrating scampi this weekend and hope to see lots of locals and visitors popping down to get their hands on a free portion – but people should be quick as once the 50 free portions are gone, they’re gone!
“But that doesn’t mean you can’t choose scampi for your Friday tea instead.
“Scampi is one of my favourite dishes on our menu. We source our langoustine tails from local fisherman and then hand-coat them in a delicious golden batter/breadcrumb.
"I recommend scampi to anyone that loves getting our fish suppers. Not only is it easier to eat whilst you admire the view across the West coast, it’s so fresh and goes perfectly with our chips and tartare sauce.”
Head to The Fish Works on The Promenade on Friday, May 28 from 12noon to get a taster scampi cone and for some first-place finger food, ask your local fish and chip shop for scampi next time you visit.
