Award winning 3idiots Indian restaurant to open in Kilmarnock as iconic bar closes

An award-winning Indian restaurant is set to open in Kilmarnock.

3idiots garnered huge acclaim and scooped up a prestigious award after launching in Ayr in 2019.

And now the Indian tapas-style venue is coming to East Ayrshire at the site of the former Paris Match bar.

The iconic pub was rebranded to The Loft in November last year but is understood to have been closed for some time now.

The opening is a homecoming of sorts for 3idiots co-owners Guri Gurchet Singh from Kilmarnock and Parveen Sharma, who stays in Stewarton. The new venue on Princes Street is being billed as 'sister establishment' to the 3idiots brand.

A Facebook post reads: "Kilmarnock - we're coming for you.

"Introducing 3idiots by parveen sharma. Sister restaurant to the 3idiots establishments - you can expect the same high quality food that we have been serving up in Ayrshire for the past 4 years.

"Our authentic, Indian Tapas-style food allows our customers to enjoy a little bit of everything!

"Our home-made food is fresh, healthy and packed with flavour - with no additional oils or colourings!

"With over 20 years combined experience in Scotland's best Indian restaurants, we are committed to providing delicious food that keeps our customers coming back for more!

"We can’t wait to welcome you - more details to follow soon."

In response to a customer, the restaurant confirmed they are "taking over the former 'Loft Bar' premises which has been closed for some time."

The popular Ayr restaurant was crowned curry king of Scotland when they scooped the award as they scooped Outstanding Restaurant of the year at the Curry Awards in June last year.

The meteoric rise of 3idiots saw the duo go on to launch a Troon venue in September last year.

Sharing its name with a Bollywood smash hit film, the hugely popular diner was born after a trio of restaurant workers decided to go it alone.

With one leaving the business two co-owners Guri and Parveen have seen their dream hit new heights.

And the Ayrshire eaterie, with Guri specialising in tandoori grill and Parveen the master curry maker, was only in its infancy when the Covid pandemic struck leaving the restaurant having to adapt with takeaways offered with contactless delivery to protect drivers and customers.

Punters have flocked from as far afield as Birmingham to sample their favourites, with 3idiots boasting a stripped back menu inspired by Indian street food.

Guri previously told Ayrshire Live: “Everything we do is authentic and fresh, we don’t add anything colouring to the food which are bad for you.

“It is cooked like our mum’s would make it, if you came into our home this is the kind of food you would get.

“We have a really small menu – people love things like the chilli chicken or the classic tikka masala.

“We’ve had people from Birmingham come up to try our food, we’ve even had people from America call us asking if they can buy a gift voucher.”
