Pop singer Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback – henceforth known as Chavril – made their engagement public Tuesday night. The announcement proved all the more shocking as the relationship had somehow gone on undetected for six months with nary a snarky tweet or late-night joke to account for it.
That ended two weeks after the couple's 8 August engagement, the announcement delayed presumably to give the couple time to enjoy their new status before the inevitable downpour of mockery descended. And descend it has:

The much-maligned couple's relationship began in February when Kroeger co-wrote a song for Lavinge's fifth studio album.
This is the second marriage for 27-year-old Lavigne, who was most recently connected to Brody Jenner (son of Kim Kardashian's stepfather Bruce Jenner – start your conspiracy theories now).
Her previous marriage was to Deryck Whibley of the similarly despised pseudo-punk band Sum 41. This is 37-year-old Kroeger's first marriage.
