Avonte Maddox named the Eagles X-Factor for 2019 season

The 2019 NFL seasons is just around the corner and with training camps less than a month away, the most important players for all 32 NFL teams are starting standout. The Philadelphia Eagles are loaded at just about every position, but in order for them to win another Super Bowl, some players will have to play above their heads. Each NFL team has a secret weapon, or a guy capable of displaying dynamic versatility on Sundays.

Pro Football Focus recently chose that one guy for each NFL team, labeling said player as an ‘X-Factor’ for the 2019 season. For the Eagles, it was a player who’s constantly making noise on the defensive side of the ball this offseason.

“X factor for 2019: Avonte Maddox. The former fourth-rounder struggled from a grading perspective as a rookie last season but did show a penchant for limiting receivers in his coverage. In fact, he led all cornerbacks by allowing a reception just once every 21.7 snaps he spent in coverage and limited opposing quarterbacks to a passer rating of just 59.9 when targeted.”

Maddox struggles at times in space, but he graded out as the best cornerback in the NFL in coverage, giving up the least amount of yards in the league last season. If he can improve even more overall, the Eagles could be soaring come late December.
