Avonmouth Docks fire: Video and pictures show blaze rages with smoke pouring into sky

The blaze at Avonmouth Docks is still "well and truly alight" as pictures show smoke continuing to pour from the scene.

The fire was reported shortly before 5.30am this morning (Monday, October 5) at the docks near the M5 motorway.

Warnings have already been put in place for drivers on the motorway to take care when driving through the area around Junction 18, as smoke billowing from the fire is drifting over the carriageway.

An eyewitness at the scene said that the fire started at around 4.30am this morning and that it remained "well and truly alight" more than three hours later.

Images taken from the scene of the fire show it is still burning on what appears to be a scrap heap.

The flames are visible in several large piles although there has been no confirmation of exactly what has caught alight as yet.

Pictures shared by Southmead Fire Station seem to confirm the fire is located in a scrap metal heap.

A video of the continuing blaze also shows large amounts of smoke continuing to emerge from the scene and drift away from the docks.

There has not been any confirmation as yet on the cause of the fire.
