'Avon business helped me pay off £100,000 debt - now my husband is retiring early'

A mum who quit her job to sell beauty products on Avon says it has transformed her life – and even paid off her debt – with her partner planning to retire early.

Rachel Beecham, 50, from Derbyshire, initially worked in a card shop when she went for a career change in 2009.

Having become £100,000 in debt and hit a low point, Rachel decided to join Avon and become a door-to-door sales woman for their beauty products.

She says as a representative, “you get what you put in”, but by utilising social media and her local community, she’s managed to boost her confidence and get back on track financially.

At the time she was struggling for money and attempting to juggle childcare with work, and explained how she needed a change.

She told the Derbyshire Telegraph : “I was working in a card shop and was £100,000 in debt while struggling to juggle work with my son being at school and my husband also working difficult hours.

“A friend told me about the Avon opportunity and how the flexibility of having your own beauty business could help me earn money while being around for my son.

“I thought it could be a fantastic opportunity to get my life back on track as well as boosting my confidence.”

As a Representative for the company, Rachel enjoys setting her own flexible working hours which allow her to prioritise her family.

Having worked for Avon for several years, Rachel currently earns on average £3,500 per month and has managed to clear all her debt.

Her husband has even managed to take an early retirement.

She said: “Four years ago, I had a heart attack and had to have surgery but was able to recover at my own pace and put work on hold to put my health first.

“It made me realise how important flexibility was in terms of setting my own hours and limits – I push myself more knowing good results are down to my own hard work.

Rachel managed to clear her £100,000 worth of debt, and her husband managed to retire early, thanks to her success.

“When I first started my business, I was able to prioritise childcare and be more present for my son which is something I lacked in my previous job.

“There was a time in my life when I wasn’t sure how I would pay the next bill, or even buy Christmas presents, but now that isn’t the case.

“Being a Representative and running my own business meant I was in control of my finances and could take the leap in gradually paying off my debt.”

Now debt-free, Rachel is encouraging others to get involved with the business.

She said that using social media to market her products has made her job even easier and more rewarding.

"Currently my Avon wages are on average £3,500 a month.

"We got into financial difficulties for a number of reasons such as difficulty in finding jobs for myself after having children which fit around school, taking bank loans out for house renovations and high interest rates when we first bought our house.

“When I was younger, I was told that I would never be successful and now I run my own business with my team of 900 representatives.

“You get out what you put in, so if you’re willing to put the effort in, the earnings are worth it – all while meeting new friends, working your own hours and being your own boss.

"My husband has been able to take an early retirement and now helps me with my business, as well as my son now starting his own business as an Avon Rep too.

"It’s been incredible to see him reach his full potential, and now that we’re all working as a team, we can spend so much more time together – whenever we like.

"It’s completely transformed our family dynamic.”
