Avon and Somerset police officer in court over M5 incident

A police officer is to stand trial for allegedly hitting a man with a taser on the side of a motorway.

PC James Clements faces charges of actual bodily harm and assault in relation to the incident on the M5 slip road at junction 14 for Falfield in South Gloucestershire.

This morning, he denied both charges at a hearing at Bristol Crown Court.

The 32-year-old from Radstock in Somerset will now stand trial at the same court on November 19.

Dressed in a dark blue suit, Clements only spoke to confirm his identity and provide his not guilty pleas.

The charges from the Crown Prosecution Service follow an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct into the incident on December 4 last year.

The result of the probe has not been revealed.
